Raman and infrared spectroscopic investigations of the SbCl4− and AsCl4− ions

The preparation, Raman and infrared spectra of (PyH)SbCl4, (Et4N)SbCl4, (Bu4N)SbCl4 and (Bu4N)AsCl4 are reported. The spectra of (PyH)SbCl4, (Et4N)SbCl4 and (Bu4N)AsCl4 demonstrate the polymeric behaviour of SbCl4− and AsCl4−; (Bu4N)SbCl4 on the other hand shows the spectrum of a monomeric ion SbCl4− in the solid phase and in dilute solutions.
