A method for position detection of a switching device

In order to be able to determine simply the position of a switching device in a fully enclosed switch unit (1), the invention calls for a transmit signal to be emitted into the interior (4) of the casing (5). The resulting reflected signal is received and stored. This operation is repeated and the two received reflected signals compared with each other. In the event of a difference between them, a signal is generated indicating the new switch status.
