The present invention provides a white light source comprising: a light emitting diode emits light having a peak wavelength in the range 350 to 490nm and a phosphor which emits visible light when excited by the response to light from the light emitting diode. Any local maximum with respect to the white light source 350 to the light emission intensity in the range 780nm emission spectra of the local minimum emission intensity ratio of the long wavelength side closest to the local maximum is set so that when the said local maximum of 1.0, the local minimum is 0.5 or more. In addition, any local maximum emission intensity of the emission spectrum of a white light source with respect to the range of 350 to 780nm, the local luminous intensity of the long wavelength side closest to a ratio of the minimum value and the local maximum is set such that when the local maximum of 1.0, the local minimum is preferably 0.7 or greater. According to the foregoing structure, it is possible to prevent the light emission intensity in a specific wavelength portion of the emission spectra is strongly felt, so that light can be provided with the same tone of white visible light.
