Ventilator Disinfection in Olympic Designated Hospitals:Current Status and Countermeasures

OBJECTIVE To investigate the current status of ventilator infection in Olympic designated hospitals,and the implement of ventilator disinfection guideline of Beijing and develop the countermeasures for standard managing of ventilator.METHODS An observatory study was conducted in 17 Olympic designated hospitals by using the evaluation criteria based on the ventilator disinfection guideline.RESULTS All of the 17 hospitals have ventilator disinfection institutions and register Ten hospitals have more than 50 ventilators.There were found different shortcomings and risk factors in 11 hospitals in terms of nosocomial infections.CONCLUSIONS Formulating related guideline or standard,centralizing the disposal of ventilators and strengthening the training of staffs are key issues to decrease the occurrence of VAP causing by exogenous factors.
