Microscopic Studies on the Effects of pH on the Oral Morphology of Hyla annectans Tadpoles From North East India

2014
Studies have indicated that pH have an important ecological effects on amphibian communities. These effects differs developmentally which depends on the interactions of biotic and abiotic parameters. The effects of acidic and alkaline pH on the morphology of the oral apparatus of Hyla annectans tadpoles were examined using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Morphological changes of the tooth rows, jaw sheaths and marginal papillae under acidic and alkaline groups were observed when compared to the control group. These morphological variations observed in the oral apparatus may help to explain the growth and development of tadpoles raised in acidic and alkaline pH environments.
