Studies on nitrogen doped ZnO nanorods synthesized through sonochemical route

2013
Ultrasound assisted incorporation of nitrogen impurity into ZnO has been reported. A sonicator with an operational frequency of 20kHz±50Hz has been used to obtain ZnO:N nanorods. X-ray diffraction studies show the formation of hexagonal wurtzite phase of ZnO with an increase in crystallite size with nitrogen incorporation. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) reveals the formation of individual nanorods and nanorods clubbed together to form flower like structure. Nitrogen incorporation was confirmed by Electron dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDAX) measurements. IR measurements also indicate the presence of nitrogen in the samples. The UV-VIS spectra show a marginal red shift of absorption band with nitrogen incorporation.
