Clinically successful results with irradiation in Hodgkin’s disease using shaped fields for supra- and infradiaphragmatic treatment were first reported by Kaplan. Since that time the large field technique has experienced wide variations concerning the shape of the fields, the fractionation, and the use of special absorbers [6]. Some of the geometric variants can be ascribed to different opinions concerning the “lymphatic organ,” which is defined as the sum of the lymph node localizations in one field [5].
