Size distribution of income : bibliography of basic sources

Concern with problems of income distribution and poverty in less developed countries has grown in recent years, and with it a demand for data on the size distribution of income. Several projects have been undertaken by the Income Distribution Division to help meet that demand, during the course of which a wide variety of published data has come to light. This bibliography is designed to make such information more readily accessible. The bibliography lists all major data sources for less-developed countries (covering the years since 1962) available to the Income Distribution Division as of January 1, 1975. It includes only publications with data of sufficient richness to provide an estimate of the size distribution of income by quintiles. Some of the sources contain much more information than this, others contain only partial information from which estimates may be made; the latter are included only for countries where the former are not available. Secondary sources (e.g., journal articles) have been included only if they present original estimates or adjustments, in which case the original sources are cited as well.
