Thermostimulated light emission of KCl1-xBrx:Eu2+ mixed crystals subjected to ultraviolet radiation

1999
The thermostimulated light emission response as a function of ultraviolet irradiation of europium-doped KCl 1-x Br x mixed crystals has been studied to investigate the selective ultraviolet detector properties of this material in the actinometric region (200-300 nm). Thermoluminescence glow curves of room temperature UV-irradiated samples were analyzed as a function of composition x and irradiation wavelength. A thermoluminescence enhancement, relative to the pure KCl and KBr end components is found; for 210-300 nm irradiation the KCl 40 Br 60 :Eu 2+ solid solution presents a significant increase in thermoluminescence efficiency, determining the optimum composition for detectors of ultraviolet light using europium-doped mixed alkali halide crystals. Also, the thermoluminescence emission spectra as a function of temperature of the samples are examined for all mixture composition.
