The invention provides a visible light response-type CuxO-TiO2 photocatalyst and a preparation method thereof. The visible light response-type CuxO-TiO2 photocatalyst and the preparation method thereof comprise the following steps of mixing a titanium precursor, ethanol, glycerol, with copper salt, reacting in an autoclave at a certain temperature, washing by straight ethanol to obtain sol-gel, after drying and calcining to obtain cupric mixing titanium dioxide, reducing the cupric mixing titanium dioxide by glucose at an alkaline condition, and obtaining the visible light response-type CuxO-TiO2 photocatalyst. The invention further discloses a photocatalyst using the above-mentioned preparation method. The visible light response-type CuxO-TiO2 photocatalyst and the preparation method thereof mix Cu into TiO2 lattices, endow a high visible light catalytic activity for the TiO2, simultaneously can effectively restrain effusion of mixing elements, and strengthen the stability of catalysts. Because of cuprous mixing, the prepared CuxO-TiO2 photocatalyst has a good role of sterilizing under visible light irradiation and even weak lights, and has broad application prospects of sterilization, air purification, water treatment, and the like.
