A translation of the twelve principles of green chemistry to guide the development of cross-coupling reactions

2021
Abstract In this paper, the applications, impact, and development of green cross-coupling reactions in academia and industry are discussed. Specifically, we discuss the translation of the Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry and their applications in pharmaceutical organometallic chemistry to stimulate the development of cost-effective and sustainable catalytic processes for the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). The evolution of the process for the synthesis of 3-ethylnyl aniline, a key intermediate for the synthesis of the tyrosine kinase inhibitor erlotinib, was described as an example of the application of this translation guide.
