Parathyroid Adenoma After Radioactive Iodine Therapy for Multinodular Goiter

Abstract The development of hyperparathyroidism after radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy has been reported in 38 cases in the literature. However, the development of a parathyroid adenoma after RAI therapy for a hyperfunctioning multinodular goiter has not been reported. This report describes the pathologic and operative finding on a patient with both hyperthyroidism and hyperparathyroidism, which was diagnosed after previous RAI therapy for a toxic, multinodular goiter.
