The US Factor in South China Sea

2009
Dispute in the South China Sea involves a lot of countries in the area.As a most influential power outside South China Sea,the United States' attention and intervention on South China Sea is increasingly prominent. After the September 11 Attacks, the United States intervenes the ISCS through three major channels:strengthening military existence, cooperation with neighboring countries of South China Sea on energy, and strengthening cooperation with the ASEAN.In a considerable long-time future, the policies of United States on ISCS will be still and mainly on initiative, expansion and deterrence and the fundamental policy on pinning down the rise of China will not change.Meanwhile, the framework of United States on active participating and building new multilateral security mechanism on ISCS is increasingly emerging. The paper analyses the policy of United States on South China Sea,and make some recommendations on how to deal with the US factor.
