Disputas pelo estabelecimento do campo científico catarinense: Instituto Politécnico de Florianópolis à Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina

2021
In this work, from the perspective of Sociology and History of Education studies, we present and discuss the context of creation of the then University of Santa Catarina (USC), which took place during the development policies from Juscelino Kubitschek's government. To do so, we used the extinct Santa Catarina´s newspaper O Estado and bibliographic researches referring to the period 1910-1960 as documentary sources. From the analysis of the sources, it was possible to map the political-economic-social-intellectual circles of the Island of Santa Catarina, identifying the networks of sociability that came to compose the beginnings of the scientific field that, today, is structured. In addition to the post-WWII developmental context, we found that the founding of the USC, in the 1960s, was related to the articulation of members of the island intellectuals, who formed the local elites, for the foundation of the Polytechnic Institute, still in the First Republic, and with the context of modernization and industrialization projects that were made in order to promote both national and regional development.
