Performance of an optical receiver employing an avalanche photodetector in the presence of timing uncertainty

The performance of an optical receiver employing an avalanche photodetector (APD) in the presence of timing uncertainty of the receiver sync subsystem is evaluated using Gaussian approximation to the APD output statistics.
