A low-cost smart grid - Is it possible?

2019
The human kind slowly, yet steadily, moves toward preserving the environment and planet Earth. One of the solutions is to increase the energy efficiency in the households and industry. However, there is a major obstacle - gathering and burning fossil fuels. One of the tools to break the conventional power generation model is to shift towards decentralized/dispersed local production and demand response embedded in a new type of electric grid, which is now known as Smart. This transition would have a significant cost and just few of the richest countries can afford to make it. This paper presents a low-cost approach for intelligent domestic load control.
