Effect of Magnetic Field on Physiochemical Properties of Carbonate Reservoirs

2020
Summary Rock wettability is affected by electrostatic interactions at oil/brine and brine/carbonate interfaces which in turn can be controlled by electrical properties of the porous media. Therefore, any external force such as magnetic field can contribute to the strength of electrostatic interactions and influence the rock’s physio-chemical properties. In this study, the effect of magnetic field on zeta potential, solution pH, conductivity, porosity and wettability of the carbonate rocks (Austin chalk) was studied. The results showed a significant change in physio-chemical properties.
