Botanicals for the management of dandruff

Dandruff is a common problem affecting the scalp and it troubles about 50% of population during their life and causes significant discomfort. It can be an embarrassing situation. It is characterized by the flakes on the scalp. Its prevalence and severity is greatest in young men.The present article discusses about microbial etio-pathology, clinical manifestation and various treatment methods available for control of dandruff. Although a variety of antifungal agents are available in the market for the treatment of dandruff, yet complete control is far from the reach. The available products and drugs are unable to prevent recurrence. The daily use of many shampoos makes hair dull and the chemical contents have their own negative effects. The present review elaborates that botanicals are more beneficial with less side effects than commercially available synthetics.
