A geological history of the Galapagos Islands

2012
The Galapagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed around the equator in the Pacific Ocean, 972 km west of continental Ecuador. The islands are particularly well known due to Charles Darwin who investigated the geology and biology of the area. It was an interesting series of geological events that led to the development of the unique flora and fauna and allowed Darwin to produce his theory of evolution by natural selection.
