Progress in hard coatings for contact-mode sensors in the plastics industry

In this paper the tribological and surface properties of different hard coatings is described. Special protective coatings are able to avoid the degradation of contact-mode sensors and to perform the correct measurements of thickness during extrusion of blown films. Application perspectives of DLC coatings in the plastic industry are discussed.
