Antimicrobial Activity of Lyophilized Aqueous Extract from Caragana Jubata (Pall.) Poir.

2020
The flavonoid profile of the lyophilized aqueous extract of Caragana jubata shoots was established based on previous studies. The antimicrobial activity of the lyophilizate was studied in vitro using a screening method for determining the antimicrobial activity of herbal preparations because the flavonoids were potential microorganism inhibitors according to the literature. The bacteriostatic and fungistatic activity was studied in vitro using double serial dilutions of the preparations in liquid growth media. The results revealed moderate antimicrobial activity of the lyophilized aqueous extract of C. jubata against all tested strains of pathogenic Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (S. aureus, E. coli, P. vulgaris, P. aeruginosa) and yeast-like and mycelial fungi (C. albicans, M. canis). The results allowed the lyophilized aqueous extract to be recommended for treating skin and mucous membrane diseases associated with bacterial inflammatory processes.
