Laboratory studies, based on "crossing point" technique have been carried out on the coal samples taken from Karadon (Cay, Sulu and Acilik seams), Kozlu (Buyuk, Acilik and Cay seams) and Amasra CoUieries (Cinarli seam) of Turkish Hardcoal Enterprises (TTK). Combustion gases have been analysed during the spontaneous combustion tests. The relations between the combustion gases and temperature have been investigated in a statistical manner. The results obtained in these studies show that the evaluation of the CrC6 alcane groups gases, 2,2 dimethyl propane and 1-pentene gases together with carbon monoxide will be useful for early detection. Evaluation of gas ratios will also be useful in continuous observations
