PS4 - 19. Expression of lipid genes, but not adipokine genes, in visceral adipose tissue is related to liver damage in obese individuals

2011
Obesity increases the risk to develop liver steatosis, inflammation, and consequently severe liver damage. This risk is associated with an increased flow of lipids and signaling molecules (adipokines), secreted by adipose tissue, through the liver. However, the relevance of lipids and adipokines in this crosstalk between adipose tissue and liver in obesity-related liver pathology is largely unknown. Therefore we investigated to what extend the expression of genes involved in lipid metabolism and adipokine genes in visceral adipose tissue is correlated to liver pathology in obese individuals.
