A Communicability Evaluation of Facebook in Mobile Devices: A Case Study from the Perspective of Deaf Audience in Brazil

2016
The use of social networks and mobile devices for communication has increased in recent years. However, the accessibility issues have been receiving few attentions in these environments. Focusing on the deaf people's needs, this paper aims to present a case study in which the communicability of Facebook mobile application is evaluated by literate deaf people in Brazil. The case study (planning, conduction and evaluation) was carried out based on the Communicability Evaluation Method (CEM) guidelines that support the identification and classification of application-to-users communicability breaks. The findings revealed us that there is no difference in the application communicability for both - deaf and hearing. In the conclusion we outlined some reflections about the need of proposing guidelines to building mobile applications for deaf people.
