A conjugative staphylococcal plasmid with no resistance phenotype

A 34.5-kb plasmid has been studied in an isolate of Staphylococcus aureus. The plasmid had no detectable phenotype except that it was conjugative and mobilized non-conjugative plasmids. Analysis with EcoRI restriction endonuclease and the lack of phenotypic markers indicated that the plasmid was different from other conjugative plasmids described in staphylococci.
