Designing of Artificial Metalloenzymes

Synthesis of artificial metalloenzymes has opened a new arena for developing enzymes with catalytic potential for novel transformations. Though still in its infancy, the concept of artificial metalloenzymes is believed to have potential to enhance the catalytic efficiency of naturally occurring metalloenzymes. Also, the mechanism of action of metalloenzymes can be elucidated through design approaches used for synthesis of artificial metalloenzymes. Owing to the enormous mechanistic and applied potential, the design and synthesis of novel metalloenzymes has emerged as one of the frontier areas of research in enzymology.
