Stress Awareness and Management in Medical Settings
2020
This chapter reviews common types of stress that are often encountered during residency training in medical settings. The authors highlight the detrimental effects of unmanaged psychological stress to both physical and mental health and how it can contribute to physician burn out, decrease work-satisfaction and performance, and reduce overall resilience to successfully manage work-life demands. Strategies that can be implemented to help residents both recognize and manage the occupational stress encountered in medical training settings are reviewed.
