HotSpotofRecombination within DXSI64inthe Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Gene

1989
Summary TheDMD gene, which spans more than2,000kbp,hasbeenassigned tobandXp2loftheX chromosome.Twosubclones (PERT87-1andPERT87-15) oftheintragenic locus DXS164physically are separated byapproximately 60kbp.Linkage studies were donein49informative DMD families byusing the LINKAGEprogram.Crossing-over between theloci studied occurred infourfamilies. A recombination rateof4% (support interval [za-1l] 1%-10%), which was 54(support interval 14-135-fold) times higher thanexpected, was found with a maximumlodscoreof13.50. Thesedata suggesta hotspotforrecombination within DXS164.
