Cost-effective polymer multimode directional couplers for high-speed on-board optical interconnects

Cost-effective polymer multimode directional couplers suitable for high-speed on-board optical interconnects are presented. Power splitting ratios from 30 to 75% are achieved, symmetric behaviour is obtained for both input arms and robust performance in terms of input misalignment is demonstrated. No special fabrication steps are required for patterning the devices.
