Structural properties of low molecular weight polyarylene alkylenes

A description is given of the main properties of low molecular weight, amorphous polyarylene methylenes and polyarylene ethylenes synthesized by the Friedel-Krafts reaction. The EPR signal and the colour of polyarlene ethylenes obtained by the interaction of the aromatic component with 1,2-dichloroethane is due to impurities of polyene structures formed as a result of the polycondensation of 1,2-dichoroethane. A comparative analysis was made using IR spectra and possible types of substitution in the aromatic nucleus evaluated; it was shown that 1,2, 1,2,3 and possibly 1,2,4 are the main types of substitution.
