This essay proposes a reflection with the intent to demonstrate how some social, political and cultural aspects in the contemporary anti-asylum movement echoes an episode of our recent history: the surrealist avant-garde movement of the early twentieth century. The exploration of this episode offers itself to continue, under the aspect of historical studies, the debate about the need for fictional creations of normative standards, or definitions of normality as related to identity. This essay aims to demonstrate how this problem communicates with the failure of the civilizing project of Modernity.
