Big Data and Health Care: a lesson learned

2018
Health Information Systems (HIS) can offer patients great benefits in terms of quality of care and reduction in costs, thus many organizations are in the process of starting initiatives to develop such systems in their domain. Many national and international organizations have developed their own HIS systems in according to their needs and according to their availability of financial and organizational resources. However, many solutions developed, also in the same operating environment, are not interoperable with each other. The main cause of lack of interoperability is the adoption of different technologies and different economic and organizational availability. Moreover, due to sensitive information to be managed security issues are to be taken into account. In this paper, we show a simple architecture for connecting heterogeneous HIS using big data technologies.
