Drug incompatibility checking system on mobile platform
2012
Drug incompatibility examination is an important process in clinical practices. Incorrect incompatibility examinations will lead to adverse drug events and must be avoided in the first place. According to medical status quo, a conventional way for the examination could be checking drug compatibilities via looking up a paper drug interaction table manually, but this is less efficient, not portable and thus inadvisable in current clinical practices. In this study, a new software for mobile intelligent terminals based on Android operating system is developed, by which physicians cannot only check drug incompatibilities of 400 different drugs, but also inquiry reference information of the employed drug. Meanwhile, one ad hoc method is proposed in this work for efficient database input. The whole software was developed in Java with the support of SQLite and Android SDK. Tests showed that it is user-friendly, time-saving and effective in applications. This study constitutes, to the best of our knowledge, the first development of a Drug Incompatibility Checking System (DICS) on Android operating system, well echoing the increasing needs for such mobile health technology.
