The Biochemistry of Fetal Lung Development

1987
The biochemical development of the lung is reviewed, with particular emphasis on the surfactant phospholipids and proteins and the structural proteins, collagen and elastin. The regulation of lung development and the experimental rationale for clinical approaches to the acceleration of fetal lung maturation and the prevention of hyaline membrane disease are also discussed.
