B 2 H 6 has been shown to react with H 2 S 2 , H 2 S 3 or crude sulphane oil in toluene to form selectively 1,2,4,3,5-trithiadiborolane. The reaction of crude sulphane has been utilized to achieve a convenient synthesis of toluene solutions of H 2 B 2 S 3 which are stable on standing at 0°C. A mechanism for the sulphur chain degradation in polysulphanes is proposed
