A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Knowledge Regarding Eye Care Among Patients Undergoing Cataract Surgery in Selected Hospitals at Amritsar

2019
Cataract – A clouding or lose of Transparency of the lens in the result of tissue breakdown and protein clumping. Objectives: To find out association of the post-test knowledge scores regarding eye care among patients undergoing cataract surgery in experimental and control groups with their selected demographic variables. Methodology: A quasi-experimental study, select two groups, design experimental and control group design which include manipulation, control group, and no randomization. The sample size is conducted 60 samples in selected hospitals at Amritsar. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample. Result: The result of the study showed that there was a significant difference in the mean post-test score and pre- test finding was 13.3 (SD + 2.4) and 20.1 (SD + 3.7), respectively. Post-test mean score was higher than the pre-test mean score. The t-test value is 11.3 which was significant at 0.05 level. In control group, the mean score of pre-test and post-test of knowledge regarding eye care among patients undergoing cataract surgery was 9.6 (SD + 1.75) and 9.8 (SD + 1.78), respectively. That t-test value was 1.6 which is less than the tabulated value, so the result was non-significant at 0.05 level of significant. Conclusion: This study recommends that a similar study can be undertaken on a large sample to generalize the findings, or a comparative study can be done to assess the knowledge regarding eye care among patients undergoing cataract surgery.
