Convenient (1 + 1) probe of S(1D2) and application to photodissociation of carbonyl sulfide at 216.9 nm

2016
Abstract We introduce a 1 + 1 probe of S( 1 D) at 216.9 nm through the (4s 3 S o ) state, and demonstrate it in one-color experiments to examine the photodissociation of OCS using DC slice imaging. As seen in previous work, the S( 1 D) image shows a bimodal distribution corresponding to two dissociation pathways of the parent molecule. The slice images are rotationally resolved across the entire product velocity profile. Separate two-color experiments allow us to determine that the probe is insensitive to orbital polarization in the sulfur atom under the conditions studied.
