The disclosure are a telephone number identification method and device. The method comprises: obtaining historical communication records corresponding to an unknown telephone number in communicating with the unknown telephone number; extracting identification information corresponding to the unknown telephone number from the historic communication records; and displaying the identification information on a communication interface. The technical scheme allows a user to rapidly and accurately distinguish the identity of the unknown telephone number, avoids missing user important communication, helps the user to filter unnecessary communication, and increases user service efficiency of a terminal communication function.
