PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element with high external quantum efficiency and a light emitting element with low drive voltage.SOLUTION: A light emitting element comprises: a light emitting layer including a phosphorescent compound, a first organic compound, and a second organic compound between a pair of electrodes. The first organic compound and the second organic compound are a combination that forms excitation complex (exciplex). A light emission spectrum of the excitation complex overlaps with an absorption band located at a longest wavelength side of an absorption spectrum of the phosphorescent compound. Peak wavelength of the light emission spectrum of the excitation complex is greater than or equal to the peak wavelength of the absorption band located at the longest wavelength side of the absorption spectrum of the phosphorescent compound.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
