Feasibility analysis of cryocooler based small scale CO2 cryogenic capture. Comment on “Energy analysis of the cryogenic CO2 process based on Stirling coolers” Song CF, Kitamura Y, Li SH [Energy 2014; 65: 580–89]

Abstract This paper comments on the errors of a recently published paper by Song CF, Kitamura Y, Li SH, Energy 2014; 65:580–589. Recalculation of the energy consumption of the new CO 2 cryogenic capture process has been performed by choosing proper COP for Stirling crycoolers, calculation results show that the best attainable efficiency of the new proposed process is 1/3–1/4 of large scale cryogenic CO 2 capture processes, and feasibility analysis indicates that cryocooler based small scale CO 2 cryogenic capture is not feasible for industrial application at present.
