Analysis of the surface roughness of Mg-Al-Mg hybrid components obtained by drilling using different cooling systems

2020
Abstract This experimental study analyzes the surface roughness reached in hybrid components of magnesium-aluminum-magnesium (Mg-Al-Mg) alloys obtained by drilling under conditions typically used in repair and maintenance operations. The design of experiment selected is a product of a full factorial 23 and a block of two factors (3×2). Factors identified as possible sources of variation are feed rate, spindle speed, cooling system type, location regarding insert and location regarding specimen. Data analyzed using analysis of variance method highlight location regarding insert and cooling system type as factors with direct influence. A selection of best cutting parameters combination is established.
