Oral contraceptive and thrombosis of the coeliac artery.

1968
2 young women using oral contraceptives have been discribed as showing acute reversible vascular injury of the colon. We report here a case of fatal thrombosis of the celiac artery. A 30-year-old woman in good health had taken pills containing 2.5 mg lynestrenol and .075 mg mestranol for about 2 months. After 2 weeks of pain below the right costal margin her state deteriorated acutely to shock and severe acidosis. At laparotomy total occlusive thrombosis of the celiac artery was found. The organs supplied by the artery were in severe necrosis. At necropsy no other primary disease or anything predisposing to thrombosis including Degos disease could be detected.(FULL TEXT)
