Meningitis Due to Streptococcus viridans Following Differential Spinal Block

This report deals with an adult patient with chronic pain in whom meningitis, due to Streptococcus viridans developed following differential spinal block performed for diagnostic purposes. This case emphasizes the importance of 1) considering bacterial meningitis in the setting of illness after diagnostic spinal procedures which are prolonged and performed outside of an operating room and 2) maintenance of strict sterile technique during differential spinal blocks and similar procedures.
