Knowledge and behavior on sun protection in outdoor rock climbers.

2021
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States1 . Among the major risk factors include personal solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure2 . Outdoor rock climbers are exposed to an excessive amount of ultraviolet radiation as they often climb in high altitude settings in the peak hours where UV exposure is highest. Despite the recent boom in the climbing industry3 , there has been a lack of research on the sun safety practice of rock climbers. We designed a study to evaluate the perceptions and the behaviors regarding sun protection and sunscreen use among rock climbers.
