Research Progress in the Treatment of Cassava Fuel Ethanol Wastewater

Ethanol production by non-food raw material has become a worldwide technical trend.Cassava is by now an economically viable non-food material for ethanol production which can be planted in large scale.There is a great potential to develop cassava ethanol production.However,cassava ethanol wastewater is a kind of high-concentration organic wastewater.The treatment of such wastewater is very hard and it restricts the development of cassava ethanol industry.In this paper,the present status of and the existed problems in anaerobic-aerobic fermentation with decantation or without decantation which were widely used in the treatment of cassava ethanol wastewater were introduced.Furthermore,the application of anaerobic-aerobic fermentation with or without decantation synergistic processing technology,characterized by recycling of anaerobic sludge and zero emission of aerobic sludge,was also commented.
