Bionomics of gurdaspur borer Acigona steniellus on sugarcane in Haryana

In a study on bionomics of Acigona steniellus (Hampson) (Crambidae : Lepidoptera) conducted at CCSHAU Regional Research Station, Kamal during 1998-99, the incubation, larval and pupal periods ranged from 7-9, 17-46 and 6-13 days, respectively. The per cent pupation and adult emergence were 13.2 - 17.57 and 64.28 - 70.83 per cent, during different generations, while the longevity of males and females was 2-5 days. The sex ratio recorded as 55.5 - 60.7 per cent (φ) and 39.3 - 45.5 percent (σ) during different generation of the pest. The fecundity per female vaired from 14-121 eggs during July-October. The pre-oviposition period from 0-2 days. The pest remained active from June to October and three broods of the pest were observed under field conditions.
