Computer processing of erosion and deposition on the bed surface

2001
Computation of erosion and deposition on the bed surface is a foundation of predicting bed variations in rivers, estuaries and seas. Triangular meshes are automatically generated by a new non-structure grid generation technique, which can well adapt to complex boundaries and special topographies in the whole calculation area. Then the digital elevation model based on the triangular grids is established through interpolation, and thus erosion and deposition in various intervals can be computed from basic units of triangular prism in order to improve computational precision. Through the computer processing of erosion and deposition, the variations of bed surface in the arbitrarily selected areas are ecasily computed and analyzed. Moreover, the generated grid is directly applied to a 2-D mathematical model for erosion and deposition on the bed surface so that the results calculated from each node can be verified to enhance the reliability of the mathematical model.
