A 130 Mb/s compact HDTV codec based on a motion-adaptive DCT algorithm
1992
The authors describe the principle and implementation of a 130 Mb/s compact HDTV codec based on a motion-adaptive DCT (discrete cosine transform) algorithm. They describe a data compression algorithm using motion-adaptive (motion processing over 5 or 10 frames) intrafield two-dimensional (8*8) DCT coding and block-adaptive quantization with eight modes which is suitable for recording systems. The hardware of the codec using a parallel signal processing architecture and three types of gate-array LSIs is discussed. The picture quality evaluation is considered, and suitable picture quality for distribution use is confirmed. >
