Bullying is a problem in Icelandic workplaces and a challenging task for many managers. The purpose of this study was to analyse cases of workplace bullying reported to the Administration of Occupational Safety and Health (AOSH) in the years 2004–2015. The focus was on what characterizes both victims and perpetrators, how were cases handled within workplaces, how were victims affected with regards to their continued employment, their health and well-being. This information was analysed for the public and private spheres separately. Results indicated that when victims of bullying complained to the AOSH they had suffered for a relatively long time. The bullying affected the health of a good part of the victims which in some cases resulted in long term sickness absence. Many victims claimed that no actions were taken at the workplace following complaints and for some it resulted in being laid-off. In most instances managers are the proclaimed perpetrators of bullying. The research showed it is urgent to systematically work on preventions of workplace bullying with increased awareness of psychosocial risks within the workplace and how they can be effectively reduced to increase employees‘ safety. Such education should be aimed at management teams who are responsible for the health and safety of employees.
