Radiotherapy for Choroidal Neovascularization

2020
Currently, the management of patients with neovascular AMD continues to be a great challenge. Although the advent of anti-VEGF therapy has marked a substantial improvement in the prognosis of the disease, the number of injections and multiple medical visits remains a marked economic and social burden. It is scientifically rational to consider an adjuvant therapy that limits this number of visits without diminishing visual improvement. Both, brachytherapy and stereotactic radiotherapy have shown positive effects aimed at this objective. More studies are needed, not only to prove effectiveness but also better long-term safety profile.
